Over the past month, a team of employees at Invacare have been raising funds for a local charity, the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line, Mid Glamorgan Link by carrying out a range of activities including a charity pin badge sale, cake sales, a raffle with various prizes and finally a tough Mount Snowdon climb.
Invacare were delighted to hand over a hard-earned cheque to the organiser of the charity, Don Sage, during a special visit to their factory in Pencoed. Thousands of children have benefitted since the charity started up over 2 decades ago. On presentation of the cheque, Don stated “this makes a huge difference to their lives, it means so much”.

The charity raises much-needed funds to bring as many children from Belarus over to the UK to stay with volunteer host parents for 4 weeks’ respite from the effects of the radiation that still affects the country, a staggering 31 years after nuclear disaster. Due to poor immune systems, there is an unbelievably high number of children with cancer. Therefore, this short break away from the radiation gives the children’s immune system an imperative 2-year boost. It also gives the children the opportunity to take part in experiences they wouldn’t ordinarily do.
The charity also supports the children’s school in Belarus. Over the years they have helped to rebuild the school and continuously provides them with school supplies, clothes, shoes and various other essential items the children need day to day. Even wheelchairs are a requirement for some of the visiting children, Invacare were also proud to donate a much-needed children’s wheelchair which will be put to very good use.
“We managed to raise a staggering £2,370 for this extremely worthy charity, but this wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing generosity of all the staff at Invacare, our customers and suppliers – a huge thanks go to all who helped and supported this cause, your efforts are greatly appreciated” commented Sharon Jones, Invacare UK who organised the fundraising.
